Krzywy Domek at 53 Bohaterów Monte Cassino is one of the most recognizable buildings on the Polish coast and, at the same time, a building without a single straight wall. We took part in the renovation of its food hall and made sofas there based on our model Paris, transformed to follow the curve of the wall.

A building in which there is not a single straight wall
Usually we tell clients that sending a floor plan is enough, and for rooms with a slope or a pillar we ask for a few additional dimensions. Krzywy Domek is a case where the floor plan is useless.
The wall curves in two planes at once, and the radius of this curve varies along its length. A piece of furniture designed to fit the average curve of such a wall would stick out in one place and be embedded in the wall in another, and with the seating arranged along the entire length, every centimeter of gap is visible.
We went to measure the arch in person
Instead of relying on the documentation, we went to Sopot and measured the curve on-site. That is a much simpler decision than explaining to a client after a month that the furniture doesn't fit because the building turned out differently than on the drawing.
We always do on-site measurements wherever the interior geometry cannot be captured with just two numbers. In most spaces, a floor plan or photos with wall dimensions are enough, but in a facility like this, saving on a single trip would cost the price of an entire set of furniture.
The fabric on the curve behaves differently than on a straight section
Material stretched over a convex surface behaves differently and, if poorly distributed, wrinkles after a few months. This only becomes visible after a season, when it is already too late for corrections.
We sew along the curved lines rather than across them. We plan the cut separately for each curved segment instead of stretching a pattern made for a straight section. Belgian fabrics, chosen by the designer to match the interior's character, were used for Krzywy Domek.
How much does the shape cost
The dimensional change itself costs nothing. Shortening a segment, a different backrest height in one section of the room, or a cutout for a pillar are all part of the normal design process, because we determine the fabric pattern and frame structure at our own facility.
The arc is an exception and we price it individually, because it requires a separate template. The same applies to angles other than a right angle. However, a right-angled corner element is calculated at the same rate as a straight section, measuring it along the outer edge of the backrest.
The Paris model starts at 750 PLN per running meter. In the same family we have Paris45 with diagonal stitching, and for the lounge areas an armchair Stiletto in a matching fabric.
Your place doesn't have to be crooked for this to make sense
Krzywy Domek is an extreme case, but the problem itself is common. A townhouse with a wall slanted three degrees, a recess where a window was bricked up, a pillar jutting out in the middle of a hallway, an attic with a sloped ceiling over guests’ heads: in each of these situations, ready-made furniture from a catalog leaves floor space unused.
The custom-fit booth for the room fills this space instead of bypassing it. The row of seats is assembled from modules up to 1.4 linear meters, standardly one meter or 1.2, so they fit through standard doors and stairwells, and the joints fall where they are not seen.
What to send if you have a similar problem
Photos from every side of the room and the wall dimensions are enough for us to tell whether this can be done from the floor plan or if a visit is necessary. If a wall is curved, let us know right away, because that changes both the quote and the timeline.
