House of Hot Pot & BBQ in Poznań: a horseshoe around a table where guests cook

Rows of turquoise custom Paris booths in front of a wall mural at the House of Hot Pot & BBQ restaurant in Poznań

For a restaurant at Piekary 22 in the centre of Poznań we made Paris seating in two shapes at once. Straight runs went along the walls, and around a round table we made a semicircular booth wrapping it in a horseshoe. All in turquoise velour with vertical channel stitching.

Scope of the project

Element Details
Model Paris, depth 70 cm, overall height 95 cm, seat 43 cm
Shapes straight runs along the walls and a semicircular booth around a round table
Fabric turquoise velour with vertical channel stitching
Detail wooden plinths under the seats, matching the wall cladding
Setting tables with a built-in cooking plate and extractor hoods

Around a shared pot, the shape of the seat has a function

In hot pot, the food is cooked in the middle of the table and everyone reaches into the same pot. A guest sitting in the corner of a rectangular bench is noticeably further from the middle of the table than one in the centre, and with this way of eating you feel it throughout the meal.

A horseshoe removes the problem, because everyone sits at roughly the same distance from the centre. Here the shape follows from the way of eating, not from the designer's taste. In a venue where guests cook together at the table, it is the difference between a comfortable evening and constantly stretching across the table.

Two shapes, one fabric

The room combines two completely different layouts: angular runs along the walls and round islands in the middle. A stylistic mismatch would have been easy here.

One decision holds it together: the same turquoise velour and the same finish in both versions. The vertical channel stitching runs identically on the straight section and on the arc, so the eye reads the room as a whole, even though the furniture has two different geometries. On top of that came wooden plinths under the seats, matched to the wall cladding.

Upholstery next to a table where food is cooked

The tables in this venue have a built-in hot plate and extractor hoods above the top. So the seat works surrounded by steam, smells and grease rising from the cooking, not only in contact with the guest.

Velour in such a place needs a conscious decision, not a reflex. Every fabric we offer for hospitality has at least 40,000 Martindale cycles, and most of our range exceeds 100,000, but in a venue with open cooking it is just as important how the material takes regular cleaning. We talk about this before choosing the colour, not after.

What a curved shape costs

We price a straight element per linear metre, and a right-angle corner at the same rate, measuring it along the outer edge of the backrest. The Paris model starts at PLN 750 per metre.

An arc or a rounded form is the only case where an individually agreed surcharge applies, because every such body needs a separate template and a different fabric cut. On curves we run the seams along the line of the arc, so that the material does not wrinkle after a few months.

Similar solutions in our catalogue

You will find modular and curved forms in the Snake system, which has a corner, a pouf, an arc element and a wedge, and in Booth Babilon among our booths. For lounge areas we choose the Lips sofa. We have gathered the full range for dining rooms on the restaurant booths page.

Frequently asked questions

Do you make semicircular booths?

Yes. In Poznań we made a horseshoe wrapping around a round table. We price rounded forms individually, because they need a separate template.

Why a horseshoe rather than a straight bench?

With hot pot everyone reaches into the pot in the middle of the table. A horseshoe places guests at an equal distance from the top, which a rectangular bench does not.

Do different shapes in one room look consistent?

They do if one finish holds them together. In Poznań the straight runs and the semicircular booth have the same turquoise velour and the same vertical channel stitching.

How much does Booth Paris cost?

From PLN 750 per linear metre in the straight version. We price arc elements with a surcharge agreed individually.

Which fabric for a venue with open cooking?

One that withstands regular cleaning, because the seat works in the steam from the cooking plate. We go through the choice in conversation, before settling on a colour.
