Kaffel in Gliwice: a Paris sofa in bottle green under a historic tiled wall

Kaffel is a bakery café in a historic building at Krupnicza 12, right by the market square in Gliwice. The interior is aimed at lovers of artisan products, and its hallmark is walls lined with historic tiles. We made 5.3 linear metres of Paris sofa and twelve chairs there, all to individual order, in four weeks.
Scope of the project
| Element | Details |
|---|---|
| Booth | Paris model made to individual measurements, 5.3 linear metres, Bluvel 78 fabric |
| Chairs | 12 pieces, model 175, Bluvel 52 fabric, 10 wood stains to choose from |
| Booth dimensions | depth 70 cm, overall height 95 cm, seat 43 cm |
| Layout | a run along the historic tiled wall |
| Lead time | 4 weeks from the moment the payment was booked |
We started the colour from the wall, not from the catalogue
The bottle green of the sofa is taken straight from the colour of the tiles on the wall it stands against. That is the reverse of the usual order: first the interior, then the furniture, rather than furniture chosen from whatever is in the sample book.
Both fabrics come from one collection of Bluvel velours: the sofa in shade 78, the chairs in 52. The colours contrast, but the texture and the way the material reflects light stay the same, so the combination does not fall apart into two different pieces of furniture standing side by side.
The model 175 chairs went in a salmon colour, deliberately contrasting. In a venue where the wall is the strongest element of the decor, the seating can either compete with it or frame it. The green frames, the salmon breaks it up.
With this model the colour decision is twofold, because the fabric and the stain of the wooden frame are chosen separately. We have ten stains, and we sew the upholstery to order, so the chair can be tuned to the interior exactly like the booth.
Four weeks for the whole order
At Kaffel the booth and chairs ran on the same clock. We make the 175 chair in 3 to 6 weeks, like custom booths, because it is made to order in the chosen stain and fabric. That is an exception to our rule that chairs and tables leave in 7 to 14 working days.
Not a single element was taken off the shelf. The sofa and all twelve chairs were made to individual order, in fabrics and dimensions chosen by the client. Everything was ready 4 weeks after the payment was booked, in the middle of the 3 to 6 week range. Transport adds 1 to 2 days.
For orders where the chairs go on a faster track, we keep the finished pieces with us until the booth leaves production and send the complete set in one transport. The client then does not pay for a second delivery and does not store chairs in a venue where work is still going on.
How much is 5.3 linear metres
That is what went along one wall at Kaffel. If you want to translate it to your venue, allow 1.2 to 1.5 linear metres per table for four, with guests sitting on the booth on one side and on chairs on the other.
A run of this length does not travel in one piece. We build it from modules of up to 1.4 linear metres, as standard one metre or 1.2, so that they fit through standard doors and the joints fall where they cannot be seen. A historic interior rarely has straight walls and standard dimensions, so we set the division after measuring, not from the catalogue.

Do you make furniture for venues in historic interiors?
Yes. With an unusual wall layout we measure on site or work from a floor plan you send, and we divide the furniture into segments to suit the real door and staircase.
We make similar runs of seating for venues with a counter and a high flow of guests - see bar booths.
We will advise on dimensions, fabrics and seating layout - free of charge and with no obligation.
