Restaurants

A restaurant on Dob utca in Budapest: one model, two rooms, two colours

Custom Booth Paris in the main, glazed room of a restaurant in Budapest, mustard upholstery

For a restaurant at Dob utca 21 in Budapest we made custom Paris seating. The venue has two rooms of completely different character, so the same model went in two finishes: mustard in the glazed main room and dark in the intimate part by the stone wall.

Scope of the project

Element Details
Model Paris, depth 70 cm, overall height 95 cm, seat 43 cm
Main room mustard upholstery, glazed space, round marble tables
Intimate room dark upholstery, stone wall
Finish of the run decorative arc and a rounded end
Non-standard elements corners and ends made to measure

The same furniture in two rooms of opposite character

The main room is glazed and bright, with a lime-green canopy over the tables. The other part is an intimate interior by a stone wall, where there is less light and guests sit closer to the next table.

The mustard upholstery in the glazed room keeps warmth of colour in a place that would otherwise turn cool and see-through. The darker finish in the intimate part works the other way: it absorbs light instead of reflecting it and closes the smaller space.

The construction and model are identical in both rooms. Only the colour changes, which costs the same and gives two interiors instead of one repeated twice.

How a run of seats ends

Few people ask themselves this when planning a room, yet you can see it in every finished venue. A run of booths has to end somewhere, and the simplest solution is to cut it off straight and cover it with a flat side.

In Budapest we did it differently. The run goes along the wall and closes with a rounded end, so the seats lead the space smoothly instead of dividing the room into rectangular modules. On top of that came a decorative curved finish in the main room, fitted to the layout of the interior.

The end is the detail that separates furniture designed for a room from furniture pushed against a wall. It costs little, and it can be seen from every seat in the venue.

How we price the shape

A straight section goes at the price per linear metre, and the Paris model starts at PLN 750. A right-angle corner element costs the same as a straight one: we measure it along the outer edge of the backrest and add it to the total length.

Arcs and rounded ends are the only cases with a surcharge agreed individually, because every such element needs a separate template. On curves we run the seams along the line of the arc, so that the fabric does not wrinkle after a few months.

Soft to the touch and durable at the same time

We chose the fabric for the intensive use typical of hospitality, while keeping a finish that is soft to the touch. These two things can pull in opposite directions, because the most durable materials are sometimes the least pleasant.

We settle this at the selection stage, not after the fact. Every fabric we offer for venues has at least 40,000 Martindale cycles, and most of our range exceeds 100,000, so durability is the starting point, not a compromise. We have hundreds of swatch books, which lets us look for a material that meets both conditions at once, instead of choosing one at the cost of the other.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same model come in two colours in one venue?

Yes, and that is what we did in Budapest. The glazed room got mustard upholstery, the intimate room a dark one, with identical construction. Changing the colour between rooms does not raise the price.

How do you finish a run of booth at the wall?

You can cut it off straight or close it with a rounded end. The second solution looks better and that is what we did in Budapest; we price it with a surcharge agreed individually.

Is a corner element more expensive?

Not at a right angle. We measure it along the outer edge of the backrest and it goes into the total length at the same rate. The surcharge applies only to arcs and angles other than 90 degrees.

Do you take orders in Hungary?

Yes. Besides Hungary we have furnished venues in Germany, France and the Czech Republic.

How much does Booth Paris cost?

From PLN 750 per linear metre in the straight version. We price arc elements and rounded ends separately.

We also design booths with a rounded end for venues with a bar - see bar booths.
