- Care and durability
How long an upholstered booth lasts in a restaurant and how to care for it

The question of how long furniture lasts usually comes up only when the first booth starts to look worse than the rest of the interior. How long the furniture lasts depends less on the furniture itself and more on how it is used and cleaned day to day.
How long a booth really lasts in a hospitality venue
A well-chosen fabric and high-density foam intended for commercial use last several years of intensive use in a typical venue without a clear loss of shape and colour.
What shortens that time most is not the number of guests but the way of cleaning. Overly aggressive chemicals and dry scrubbing destroy the fibres faster than sitting itself.
Three elements that wear at different rates
The durability of furniture breaks down into three parts, and each of them works to a different clock.
| Element | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Frame | the skeleton of the furniture, decides whether it can be renovated after years | a dozen or more years of intensive work |
| Foam | responsible for comfort and holding the shape | years, if the density is chosen for commercial use |
| Fabric | the only element in constant contact with guests and with cleaning | wears out first |
The order is always the same: first the fabric, only then the construction. That is why, when choosing furniture, it is worth asking about all three elements separately, not about a single number of years.
Eight years in a nightclub: what wore out and what did not
The toughest test our furniture has faced took place at Energy2000 in Katowice. In 2016 the club ordered more than 200 linear metres of Booth Box I from us.
A nightclub is the harshest environment upholstered furniture can meet: crowds of guests every weekend, constant sitting down and getting up, spilled drinks and cleaning for many hours at night. After eight years the client came back asking about new furniture. Before we proposed anything, we looked over those booths together: the construction and foam were in good condition, and the years of use showed only on the fabric.
Instead of new furniture we renovated the existing pieces, fitting a fabric with a resistance of more than 100,000 Martindale cycles. These conditions are harsher than in a restaurant or hotel, so this example shows well where the limit of wear lies.
How to clean without shortening the life of the fabric
Regular, gentle cleaning as you go extends the life of a fabric more than occasional deep cleaning once every few months. Vacuuming and wiping with a damp cloth and a mild product are enough in most venues.
Remove stains straight away, before they soak into the structure of the fabric. The longer they stay, the harder they are to remove without a trace. Cleaning products are chosen for the specific upholstery, so ask about them when you order: different fabrics need different approaches even though they look similar.
An underrated cause of damage: what stands by the edge of the seat
The most common accidental damage comes not from use but from what stands right next to it. Candles, hot dishes and metal decorations placed close to the edge of the seat damage the fabric at single points, in a place no abrasion test covers.
The choice of material can decide how long furniture lasts. At Naleśnikarnia 2.0 in Bytom we deliberately moved away from black faux leather, and we describe why there.
What to ask before you order
Ask about the density of the foam, the construction of the frame and the fabric's resistance in Martindale cycles. Every fabric we offer for venues has at least 40,000 cycles, and most of the range exceeds 100,000.
If you want the longest possible life, tell us in the conversation how many hours a day the furniture will be in use and how often it will be cleaned. We choose the fabric for that: +48 535 080 040.
Frequently asked questions
What wears out first in an upholstered booth?
The fabric. The frame and foam last much longer, which was confirmed with the furniture at Energy2000 after eight years of work in a nightclub.
How many Martindale cycles should a fabric for a venue have?
At least 40,000. Most of our range exceeds 100,000 cycles.
How often should a booth in a restaurant be cleaned?
Regularly and gently, as you go. That extends the life of the fabric more than deep cleaning once every few months.
Will a light fabric last in a busy venue?
It will last as many cycles as a dark one, but it shows stains and signs of use sooner. Patterned fabrics hide them better than plain ones.
